why tre?

tre Ministries is a place of belonging, purpose, and hope for young adults of the Sioux Falls community and beyond. Founded in 2018 with a heart to see this generation learn about and walk with Jesus, we’ve seen the Lord working in ways that we could not have imagined.

Here are some statistics that drive us as a young adult ministry…

  • 10% 18-25 year olds experience homelessness in a 12 month period (Chapin)

  • 44% of women 18-25 experiencing homelessness were pregnant (Chapin)

  • 33% 18-25 experience mental illness (NIH)

  • 56.9% of women aged 20-29 have an abortion (CDC)

  • 67% 18-35 don’t feel cared for by others (Barna)

  • 23% 18-35 encounter feelings of loneliness and isolation (Barna)

tre exists to address these statistics. We intentionally create programming that supports young adults and allows spaces where belonging, purpose, and hope can thrive by building relationships with peers, churches, community leaders, and most importantly, Jesus Christ.

Breakthroughs, forgiveness, healing, growth, and a deeper understanding of Christ and His love have all happened within our walls, but perhaps the most beautiful thing is that these same things have happened outside of tre as our young adults take this love wherever they go - something we like to refer to as: The Ripple Effect. In short, what happens within the walls of tre doesn’t stay within the walls. Belonging, purpose, and hope have a multiplying effect and impact on families, communities, and generations to come.

the story of tre

In the walls of tre Lounge on 33rd Street, in the context of a coffee shop, an idea turned into a young adult movement. A community was being formed through Bible studies, bingo and open mic nights, hangouts, study groups, trivia...all ideas were on the table. Young adults rallied together and created space for one another to ask questions, to be challenged, and to grow together. And the impact went both ways: while tre impacted young adults, young adults also impacted and shaped tre.

What tre was becoming was hard to define, since it was not affiliated with one specific church or nonprofit. A principal value since the start was to partner across denominational lines and with multiple organizations to pursue unity in the body of Christ and to work together to see the kingdom of God grow. Though tre was faced with many doubts along the way, one thing was clear: the need for community was real, and young adults were bought into making it happen.

who we are

Over the next 5 years, the journey of tre began. Full-time staff, programming, and a continued challenge and excitement to see what God was calling us to become. We have been amazed to see the amount of young adults reach out, bring friends, and be open to call and direct message us on social media looking for community! The overwhelming sense we have as a ministry is that true and genuine community is craved by this generation. Anxiety and fear are prevalent in every facet of life, but there is a renewed boldness and courage to step into the vision God laid before us 5 years ago. Belonging, purpose, and hope is just as relevant now as it was then.

Through each part of tre Ministries’ journey, God’s faithfulness has been abundantly clear. Our heart in this season is to notice and care for young adults who do not know Jesus, who are looking for connection and belonging. For those who do not yet know Him, and for those who love the Lord – everything we do is to show young adults that we are here for them, and we are going to show them the love of Christ in all that we do, all that we plan, and all that we step into as a ministry. Empowering and equipping young adults to live out their God-given purpose. To bring belonging, purpose, and hope to those who feel so close to Jesus, and for those who feel so far away from Him. No one is too far from the love of Christ!
